Description

NAMI Delaware is looking for a core group of volunteers who can regularly be called upon for our Storytime with NAMI Delaware.

This free program is designed to engage young audiences in child-friendly conversations about mental health and emotional wellness through storytelling.

NAMI Delaware maintains a list of schools, youth clubs, churches, and daycares that we circulate regularly.  We provide vetted books with content relevant to educating our youth about complex subject matters such as depression, anxiety, othering, bullying, and asking adults for help.

Volunteers will undergo a background check for clearance and may need additional background checks via the school system before being approved to volunteer.  This task is not a one-off event but a regular, ongoing program that was created by a Fellow from the University of Delaware. We would love to see this success continue.  The volunteer would shadow the current Fellow until June, then take over the role.

Each storytime takes approximately 2 hours to complete and is held at a location in either New Castle or Kent County (we are currently hoping to expand).

Due to the time it may take for background checks, we are seeking to start vetting volunteers now.
