Friends of Historic Riverview Cemetery is dedicated to operating Wilmington, Delaware’s most culturally diverse, nonprofit, public cemetery by offering burials and advancing its restoration, preservation, and enduring legacy as a place of history, reflection, and community.

This is Mamie Warren Senior Center's largest fundraiser of the year.  We are looking for volunteers to hand out crabs, collect trash, and help as needed.  Volunteers will need to come ready to move and have a good time. This is a BYOB event and alcohol will be on site.  

White Clay Creek State Park is looking for volunteers willing to assist with weeding at the Nature Center!

This summer, work is beginning on White Clay Creek's brand new Nature Center! In preparation for the ground breaking ceremony, volunteers are needed to assist with weeding out invasive stilt grass in the area.

Wells Field needs volunteers to help battle encroaching invasive plants!

These aggressive plants steal nutrients from the soil that our native plants depend on to thrive. Our wildlife and insects will not eat the invasive plants. The invasive plants are harmful to our ecosystem and will create a monoculture if not removed/cut. These invasive plants include multiflora rose, wineberry, and Japanese honeysuckle, just to name a few.

Meeting Location: 13 Bristol Knoll Rd, Newark

No experience is necessary! You only have to care about our forests, fields and wildlife.  Other experienced volunteers will be there to teach you how to identify the plants for removal and how to effectively remove them.

Volunteers are recommended to wear a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, and close-toed shoes. Please bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated. Work gloves and tools will be provided.

Volunteer at White Clay Creek State Park Today!

"De-vine Intervention" is a program to remove invasive non-native vines and other plants to benefit the native trees throughout White Clay Creek State Park. Non-native invasive vines such as Oriental bittersweet will wrap tightly and overtop trees, eventually killing them. 

Our team will help you identify these invasive plants and learn how to remove them safely.

We have removed so much of the under story that we are starting to see regrowth of some of the native American Holly, White Oak, Sassafras and other plants. The additional sunlight is also encouraging a regrowth of some non-natives so we regularly return to those areas to remove them.

When: Every Wednesday at 9:00 am until 11:00am.

Who: Suitable for individuals and for families with children 14 and over. Parent consent form required for children under 18. Parent or guardian supervision required for children under 16. This opportunity is also suitable for teams up to ten people.

Volunteer at White Clay Creek State Park Today!

The Forest Restoration Team works year-round to remove a variety of invasive plants from the Judge Morris Estate site at White Clay Creek State Park. The work ranges from easy hand-pulling of small plants to removal of large shrubs and trees, to cutting and piling plant debris.  This volunteer group has been working at this site in White Clay Creek State Park for ten years to restore the forest's biodiversity and is making remarkable progress. 

There are periodic opportunities to install native species where invasive plants have been removed. This is a great way to learn more about invasive plants and the ecology of the park while helping out with a friendly group of like-minded individuals. This volunteer effort has won awards from the State of Delaware for dedication to the park and has received numerous grants to support the ongoing efforts. New volunteers are always needed and very welcome!

Anyone who is looking to make an impact in their community can support survivors of violent crime by volunteering with SARC to provide legal advocacy during times of crisis.  Legal Assistance Response Advocates, or LARAs, provide compassionate, confidential support to survivors of all forms of sexual violence, domestic violence, and human trafficking. Our advocates assist victims in completing petitions for civil legal protection orders and accompany them to hearings.  

During a LARAs chosen on-call shift, they are expected to be available to respond to SARC offices and/or the New Castle County courthouse as needed to support survivors through the legal process, answer questions, and provide emotional support.  LARAs can assist with Protection From Abuse Orders (PFAs), Sexual Violence Protection Orders (SVPOs) and Lethal Violence Protection Orders (LVPOs).

All advocates will be asked to complete an application and interview. Volunteers do not need prior experience; training will be provided, and they will be supported on accompaniments by a 24/7 supervisor on call.   Responds to the New Castle County Courthouse Family and Superior Court departments. Opportunities soon to expand to Kent and Sussex Counties.

You can! We don’t require any prior bicycle experience. All you need is a willingness to learn and help. Most volunteers are over 18 years of age, but volunteers between 10–17 years of age can volunteer with a parent or with a signed permission form on file.

There are plenty of ways to get involved, including cleaning and photographing bikes, sorting parts, and welcoming and helping customers. One popular form of volunteering is assisting with repairs on customers’ bikes and donated bikes. If you don’t know how to do something, we can teach you- allowing you to turn around and use that knowledge to help others. Volunteers help run educational programs, events, and more. We are open to new projects and ideas based on the unique interests and skills you bring.

WILDLIFE HOTLINE OPERATOR

 
These volunteers help to support our clinic team with inquiries about injured and orphaned native wild birds in the tristate area. They greet the public in person and on the phone, help answer questions and provide information, admit bird patients, and other public education needs. These tasks are done with the support and direction of staff and other experienced volunteers. Training will be provided by mentor volunteers, staff, and the Volunteer Services Director.

This Opportunity Is Available to People Who:

·       Are at least 18 years of age

·       Enjoy talking to new people and educating the public about wildlife

·       Are well spoken, pleasant, and polite

·       Can successfully operate a computer and a multi-line phone system

·       Are comfortable with computer data entry and maintaining records in a busy work environment

·       Are able to handle and process sensitive information

·       Want to help be part of rescuing birds

·       Those who can serve a minimum of one 4 hour shift a week

Examples of Tasks Performed by the Wildlife Hotline Operator

·       Professionally represent Tri-State Bird Rescue & Research

·       Answer phone calls on a multi-line system and emails (Outlook) in a timely and orderly manner, providing accurate instructions and information to the public

·       Greet the arriving public in a timely manner

·       Receive and intake birds for admission; obtain a history of the patient

·       Accurately create patient charts and maintain hotline call log

·       Arrange transportation for injured/orphaned birds

·       Make referrals to other rehabilitators and other sources as needed

·       Capable of working in a fast paced environment and learning how to prioritize tasks

·       Provide office support to the clinic staff and volunteer manager, as needed

·       Are kind, compassionate, and empathetic during all conversations and interactions

Time Contribution

·       Volunteers are expected to serve at least 4 shifts a month.  Each shift must be a minimum of 4 hours.

·       Volunteers are needed for shifts between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily throughout the year.  Shift times are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

·       Volunteers are expected to commit to a minimum of 12 months of service.

The Special Olympics Delaware Cycling Classic is a mid-season qualifying competition that brings together approximately 150 athletes from across the state to compete in a variety of cycling events.  

Volunteers play a vital role in creating a safe, organized, and encouraging environment while helping athletes qualify for championship competition.  

Volunteer opportunities may include:

Course marshaling and directing athletes Start/finish line

support Timing and score recording

Awards assistance Hydration and athlete support

General event operations, setup, and cleanup

No prior cycling experience is required for most roles.

Volunteers will receive an orientation on-site and will work alongside Special Olympics Delaware staff and event leaders.   Whether you're cheering on athletes, assisting with event operations, or helping keep the course running smoothly, your support helps make the Cycling Classic a successful and memorable experience for every athlete.

Indian River School District Early Learning Center is getting a brand new garden! 

We will build new garden beds and fill them with soil the same day. To make this happen, Healthy Foods for Healthy Kids needs volunteers.  We will divide into teams to accomplish these goals. Depending upon the number of volunteers, and equipment available, it will take us up to 5 hrs to complete the work.

Parking support volunteers will be stationed in key parking areas to greet guests and help guide them toward check-in and ticketing during major events. Volunteers are NOT responsible for parking vehicles, but for providing friendly direction and ensuring guests know where to go during our Twilight on the Terrace events. They are often the first point of contact for guests, so a friendly and helpful attitude is essential!

Key Responsibilities:

·       Provide basic information and directions to event attendees (entrances, exits, accessible parking, etc.)

·       Comfortable standing and working outdoors for extended periods

·       Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team

What to Wear/Bring: Comfortable clothing appropriate for weather conditions, closed toed shoes, sunscreen, hat, etc. High-visibility vest will be provided

Brief orientation provided before the event and on-site supervisor will be available for assistance

The 40th Annual Amish Country Bike Tour will be held October 10th, 2026 throughout Kent County. This is a family-friendly, volunteer run fundraising event which supports non-profit Bike Delaware.

Opportunities include:

Friday October 9th 3:30 pm - 7:30 pm on Legislative Mall, 410 Legislative Ave., Dover DE. Tasks for the afternoon include set up of tables and chairs, set up registration area, hand out registration packets to riders and take down and storage of tables, chairs, equipment and registration materials.

Saturday October 10th, various hours and locations. Legislative Mall, Dover 5:30 am - 5 pm, Rose Valley School Road, Dover 8 am  - 2 pm, Painted Stave, Smyrna 6 am - 10 am, Harvest Ridge Winery, Marydel 8 am - 1 pm. Tasks include but are not limited to set up and take down of tables, chairs, tents, handing out registration packets, snacks, beverages, pie, clean up, restocking beverages, ice and food.

Become a Friends of Killens Pond Member!

The Friends of Killens Pond mission is to enjoy and protect the land within Killens Pond State Park, its management areas, and to actively participate in the Park's preservation and improvement. 

The Friends of Killens Pond group helps fund the summer concert series, children's summer camp scholarships, stipends for Title I school field trips, and other needs for the park. Members work on trails twice a month and maintain the garden beds throughout the park. The members also run annual activities/events, like Scarecrow making and as of 2026 the Killens Pond Festival!

If you are interested in learning more or becoming a Friends of Killens Pond member, they welcome anyone to attend one of their monthly meetings; the 2nd Tuesday of every month starting at 6:30pm in the Nature Center.

Our state parks mission is to provide Delaware's residents and visitors with safe and enjoyable recreational opportunities and open spaces, responsible stewardship of the lands and the cultural and natural resources that we have been entrusted to protect and manage, and resource-based interpretive and educational services. Master Naturalists are currently working to install pollinator gardens, to restore natural areas and to lead themed educational hikes for the public.

Parkeon Assistants will play a vital role in guiding visitors through the Parkeon machine process at the park entrance fee booth and directing them to appropriate parking areas, ensuring safe and efficient traffic flow during busy weekends and events. A very brief training will be given ahead of your scheduled shift on the Parkeon process.

Village Volunteers is seeking community-minded volunteers to join our Emergency Preparedness Team. Working with the Team Chair, members will help develop emergency preparedness plans for Village members, volunteers, staff, and the organization; promote awareness of the importance of emergency preparedness, particularly in our coastal community; and identify, develop, and distribute resources to help older adults and community members prepare for emergencies. This volunteer opportunity is ideal for individuals who are passionate about community resilience, planning, and helping others stay safe and informed.

Village Volunteers is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join our Community Outreach Team and work under the direction of the Member/Volunteer Team Chair to increase awareness of our mission and services. Anyone who is looking to make an impact in their community can support survivors of violent crime by volunteering with SARC to answer our 24/7 helpline and connect callers with needed services.

SARC’s helpline advocates provide compassionate, confidential support to survivors of all forms of sexual violence, domestic violence, and human trafficking. Volunteers will provide crisis intervention, support, and resource referrals to callers and clients and conduct safety, suicide risk, and lethality assessments when appropriate. These advocates serve as a critical bridge between immediate crisis response and long-term healing.

During a volunteer’s chosen on-call shift, they are responsible for responding to any helpline calls, which will be routed to their personal cell phone. Helpline advocates volunteer remotely but are expected to be in a quiet area when answering calls. 

All advocates will be asked to complete an application and interview. Volunteers do not need prior experience but are required to participate in initial training and advanced workshops. They are expected to communicate with the on-call Supervisor during their shifts and complete accurate reports in a timely manner.

Wilmington State Parks welcomes volunteers who would like to help care for any of the garden beds throughout the park system.Wilmington State Parks — Brandywine, Rockford, H. Fletcher Brown, and Happy Valley parks, along with Kentmere Parkway — are home to a variety of garden beds.Some park garden beds are not just decorative; they are increasingly becoming functional spaces intended to support local ecosystems. Volunteers help to meet the needs of these garden beds and thus make a significant difference.

Primary duties:

Report safety concerns or damages

Rake leaves and remove branches and other debris

Pull or dig up weeds and invasive plants Prune, deadhead, or remove dead or damaged garden plants

Cut back and remove vines

Other projects as requested

Needs can be significant after weather events. We are grateful for the countless volunteers who have helped to steward the garden beds in our parks and maintain their purpose as well as beauty. Note: The Jasper Crane Rose Garden is NOT part of this opportunity.

Have you secretly wondered what it is like to be a mascot? Interested in being someone (something) else? Have high energy and like to make people smile?  You may not want to be IN the suit, but like people and can be the mascot guide and voice interacting with people. We need both roles.  Join the BBD Mascot team for parades and/or walking in parades.

Did you know that invasive plants grow aggressively, stealing the sunlight from our native plants and nutrients in the soil? 

Invasive plants disrupt local ecosystems because they lack natural predators and grow aggressively. They outcompete native flora for critical resources like sunlight, water, and nutrients. This unchecked spread chokes out native plants, which in turn starves the local insects and wildlife that rely on them for food.

We have groups that meet on Fridays and Saturdays to work two hours to remove the invasive plants.  You do not need any experience.  Come help our habitat and our wildlife while meeting new people!

The Newark Arts Alliance is in need of social media assistants, as part of our Shop Committee. In this role, you will create social media posts to advertise the art in our shops. You will also work directly with the shop artists to connect and tag them in posts. Volunteers should have previous experience in creating social media posts, and should have an active social media presence.

The Newark Arts Alliance is in need of volunteer photographers for our merchandise. As a volunteer, you will visit the shop monthly to take photos of merchandise in our gallery shop (all of it, including the jewelry). Volunteers should present a portfolio demonstrating their skillset. Volunteers will need to use their own equipment, as the Newark Arts Alliance will not be providing any. Images taken will be used in promotional materials, with credit given.

The Newark Arts Alliance needs volunteers to assist with our Art to Go events at the Empowerment Center at New Ark United Church of Christ. At these events, you should share about your love of community arts with visitors and be an ambassador for the Newark Arts Alliance's offerings. Volunteers are required to have had 6 months of steady involvement with the Newark Arts Alliance. These events take place on the first Thursday of the month, roughly 4-5 times per year between 1PM and 3PM.

The Newark Arts Alliance needs volunteers to help with flyer distribution. As a volunteer, you will pick up flyers at the Newark Arts Alliance and drop them off at set locations around Newark. The Newark Arts Alliance is in need of gallery monitors. As a gallery monitor, you will staff our Member's Gallery Shop. This will involve checking out customers and completing transactions, answering questions, and acting as an ambassador for the Newark Arts Alliance. Volunteers are required to have had at least 6 months of steady involvement with the NAA. Volunteers will work 4-hour shifts, with the option to work weekly, monthly, or bi-monthly. As a bonus, you may earn an extra 10% commission on artwork sold through the Newark Arts Alliance.

The Newark Arts Alliance is in need of a coordinator for our gallery monitors. You will be in charge of scheduling our volunteer gallery monitors, who run the shop during open hours. You will need to communicate with volunteers regarding any changes to scheduling, as well as communicate with the Executive Director and Administrative Assistant about the needs of gallery monitoring. As a bonus, you may receive a 0% commission on work sold in the shop (between January and October) or you may receive a $25 gift card for the shop, for each month of gallery monitor coverage. This volunteer opportunity will take roughly 4-6 hours each month, with flexibility on when these hours occur.

Come Help the Butterflies!!

Monarch butterflies are vital ecological components that act as key pollinators for wildflowers, support biodiversity, and serve as a crucial food source for various predators. As a "flagship" or indicator species, their population decline highlights broader environmental issues, including habitat loss and pesticide overuse. Our park provides milkweed beds to support monarchs through their life cycle, and we need your help monitoring and documenting this process!  

No prior experience is necessary to join in this effort. The Assistant Superintendent (Kaitlyn Korblick) and Lead Naturalist (Becca Zajac) are currently preparing an orientation for potential volunteers, which is upcoming for the late summer.

If you are interested in attending an orientation session, which lasts about 1 hour, please respond to this posting. From then, if you are interested in becoming a volunteer, you will be given days/times to choose from for your monitoring.  

Once you are oriented and trained, you will observe the designated milkweed beds once per week for roughly 1 hour, ideally on the same day each week. The active season for monarchs is from May to September.

You report your hours to our Manager of Volunteers (Nancy Kersey) and communicate with the Naturalist and Asst. Superintendent with any other concerns. Once the 2026 season concludes, you will be invited to continue volunteering with us in summer 2027.

(May B.) Leasure Elementary School is getting a brand new garden!

We will build new garden beds and fill them with soil the same day. To make this happen, Healthy Foods for Healthy Kids needs volunteers.  We will divide into teams to accomplish these goals. Depending upon the number of volunteers, and equipment available, it will take us up to 5 hrs to complete the work.

More Background: Join Healthy Foods for Healthy Kids (HFHK) to "play in the dirt". We need a team of 10 to 15 people to make short work of this invigorating task.  Gloves and tools will be provided, but we can always use more. Please wear appropriate clothes and footwear. Also please bring a refillable water bottle if you have one, we will have extra water on site.

Help Clear Delaware Seashore's Boardwalk!

Join fellow volunteers in keeping Delaware Seashore's South Inlet boardwalk accessible! Over time, wind blows sand onto the boardwalk which accumulates into piles that can be difficult to walk over. We will be shoveling this sand off of the boardwalk and moving it back onto the beach so that visitors can easily access and enjoy the beautiful coast!

What to Expect:
We provide all necessary supplies, including gloves, shovels, and a wheelbarrow. Expect to walk over a variety of surfaces including paved paths and sand. Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes.

Meeting Location:
South Inlet Day-Use Area parking lot. Park near the Big Chill and look for a state vehicle and park staff member to assist with check-in.

A Matter of Balance is the most widely implemented fall prevention program across the country.  An evidence-based, field-tested program, A Matter of Balance has been shown to be highly effective in reducing the fear of falling and increasing activity levels among older adults.  It is an easy to implement, inexpensive, and well-accepted turnkey educational program that can be employed within many community organizations and groups.

A Matter of Balance Lay Leader Coach Volunteer: Master trainers are responsible for teaching the A Matter of Balance curriculum to coaches and providing them with guidance and support as the lead the A Matter of Balance classes.  Upon certification from a master trainer, the volunteer will be responsible for implementing the A Matter of Balance sessions through lesson plans, workbook, group discussions and activities.

Volunteers have been making mats for the homeless in our nation for years. In 2019, Volunteer Delaware 50+ added the concept of using plastic bags to create mats after being introduced to the idea by a volunteer. It soon grew into a statewide program. Within this short time, Bags2Mats for the Homeless volunteers have prepared plarn, crocheted, and gifted more than 500 mats in the State of Delaware. The program operates statewide and needs volunteers to help collect plastic bags, turn the plastic material into plarn (plastic yarn, and crochet the plarn into mats.

CareWear consists of dedicated volunteers who knit, crochet, and sew year-round for some of the most vulnerable members of our communities in Delaware. Crafters of all ages create beautiful hand-made cold-weather items such as hats, scarves, mittens, quilts, and blankets, which are then distributed to children, families, and individuals via area non-profits, social service agencies, churches, hospitals, and local community organizations. Volunteers set their hours, create items they enjoy, and connect with other crafters in a supportive and creative environment.

First Tee - Delaware uses golf as the vehicle to teach life skills and character enhancing values to kids all over Delaware.  We rely on over 100 volunteer coaches throughout the state to administer our golf and life skills programs. Are you interested in colonial history? Learn how hearth cooking was done in the 18th century. One Saturday a month in spring and fall, and/or help with demonstrating hearth cooking to school groups during the week. Training provided. Flexible scheduling.

Help us save the trees from being strangled by English Ivy Vines in Brandywine Park!

Many of our trees are in danger of being harmed or killed by the invasive English Ivy which is pretty to look at but deadly.  The vines climb up the trees blocking out the sun, susceptible to breaking branches, serious diseases and even death.  Removing these vines (you cut from the bottom of the tree) helps control the spread of invasive plants throughout the park and in surrounding neighborhoods.
